WanderSafe, an innovative non-violent integrated personal safety solution for travellers, is set for a global launch at TFWA World Exhibition (Digital Village DB13).
The electronic device and app was created by JOZU for Women, a travel platform designed to help women travel better and safer.
WanderSafe was designed by former travel retail consultant and brand CEO Stephenie Rodriguez, in collaboration with former US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Safety Expert, Thomas Pecora.
WanderSafe will be presented to travel retail on 2 October, which is UN International Day of Non-Violence, and the birth date of Indian activist, Mahatma Gandhi.
WanderSafe is an anti-rape, anti-assault and anti-trafficking device that pairs, via Bluetooth, with a smartphone app to deliver location-relevant safety information in real time. Features include a high lumen quick-click flashlight, second click disorienting strobe light, and a twist top 140db personal siren.
The WanderSafe Activate button sends a distress signal, with details of the user’s location, to contacts, employers or law enforcement representatives.
The small 70gm device targets travellers, students and “vulnerable” women. That category, Rodriguez believes, could include many travel retail employees on overseas trips (such as trade shows -Ed).
WanderSafe has a RRP of US$59.95 (€51) in travel retail and US$79.95 (€68) in high street locations and online. A smartphone app is available from iTunes and will be available in Google Play November 1, 2018.
Rodriguez said the device celebrates innovation in the consumer technology category and a safer future of travel. “It is a travel essential,” she said.
“The future of travel is most definitely female with more than 850 million women travelling this year,” Rodriguez added.
She noted that over 68% of overseas students are female. In the USA, more than 11 million women over the age of 30 take solo international trips over five times a year.
“WanderSafe isn’t just for women, but we believe we are empowering more women to travel further with greater peace of mind and, unlike pepper spray or tasers, it is completely non-violent and poses no threat to its users.”
Pecora underlined three important principles of personal safety which are included in the WanderSafe product: information, environmental awareness and equipment.
WanderSafe collaborates with the world’s leading anti-trafficking organisations including Airline Ambassadors International, Purchased and CrimeStoppers International.
